During the winter 1192 in England, Lady Rivellaux Faye and her friend, Elayne Lorvi, married to Lord Lorvi Torr, and their daughter aged eighteen months Angeline often benefited Picnic at Riverside. On an idyllic day, little Angeline discovers a precious chalice buried under mud and rocks. Recognizing its immense value, and Aye Elayne keep the discovery a secret.
Elayne fell ill and on his death bed, she drew a promise to protect Eagle and take care of little Angeline as if the child was his own son. Faye takes this promise to heart and becomes a loving surrogate mother to the little child.
Then, a day, Angeline is mysteriously kidnapped. Faye received a ransom of money and was told a place to exchange. A population impoverished widow who survives on the charity of the Lord Lorvi, Faye did not have the money to pay the ransom, but she holds the golden chalice and will be happy to abandon to save Angeline. Dedicated to achieving his promise to her friend, Faye proposes to meet a stranger at a destination agreed.
Sir Brant Meslarches past is inextricably linked to that of Lord Lorvi Torr, and nurtures a deep aversion to humans. Due to request to die by Brant's brother, Royce, Brant is obliged to obey requirements Lorvi and recognize him as overlord. But it is Lorvi who orchestrated kidnapping his own daughter to win the affection of the beautiful Faye. Lorvi know Faye has no money to pay the ransom, Brant, he ordered to scare her. When Faye Brant offers the chalice of gold, he is shocked. How did she buy? Rant considers it part of a lost treasure that King Arthur's brother Royce has spent his life searching.
This wonderfully rich medieval story includes a bit of mystery, an abundance of love, a sprinkling insidious evil, and enough adventure to keep the reader reading throughout the gripping climax to the whole end.
Catherine Kean writes medieval rich prose that draws you into this masterfully woven tale. The flowing prose of the novel allows the reader to plunge completely in the story. The plot is simple with not too many characters. It is an enjoyable read with a gripping climax that held my attention long into the night until I reached a very satisfactory conclusion.
About the Author
Books are one of Mirella Patzer’s obsessions, especially those that pertain to medieval eras and with Italy as a backdrop. To fulfill a life long dream, she began writing several years ago and has never looked back. Since then she has published several short stories and completed two novels with several more novels in various stages of completion.
Her fascination for women of history and Italy is often reflected in her work, blogs, and website. When she’s not immersed in research or writing or blogging, Mirella works as an editor for Enspiren Press.
She writes from her home in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, surrounded by her husband, two college-bound daughters, and a rambunctious little grandson who frequently interrupts her work with a variety of unanticipated, yet humorous calamities and interruptions. For her, life couldn’t get any better.
